About Us
Marquee Wheatens is Richard & Sonya Urquhart. Sonya is a retired teacher with a BA/MA in Theatre with an emphasis on Performance. Richard is a semi retired California attorney, a Certified Specialist in Family Law, who also has a BA in Theatre with an emphasis on Directing. So now you know where our first wheaten Ch. Ballyhoo’s That’s Show Biz, Bizi, got her name; the genesis of Marquee as our kennel name; and why Sonya can be so nice and Richard can seem to be such an arrogant jerk. How we have stayed married, lived in the same house for 38 years, raised two sons with five wonderful grandchildren, and shown dogs together and against each other, is either a testament to our love for each other, our love for Wheatens, our love of competition, our lack of intelligence or just plain stubbornness. Sounds just like a couple of terriers.
Although we never really set out any specific goals, we have always been motivated by our desire to breed dogs who would be competitive in the conformation ring. Our vision or picture of the perfect Wheaten is a blend between the two of us. Although we want to win, and we want to breed healthy Wheaten Terriers, ultimately our goal is provide Wheaten companions who will bring joy and laughter to their owners.
We are both members of the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Club of Northern California, the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Club of America, the Northern California Terrier Association and the Anniston Kennel Club. Richard is also been approved by the AKC judge Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers.
In 2008 we moved to Alabama, and now own and operate the Cane9Creek RV Park & Campgrounds, a retirement project which again seems to have an emphasis on dogs–a place for pets to bring their people.
